Signs to Look Out For

All sorts of items can cause a blocked drain—whether it’s food waste, hair, soap, leaves or soil. Whatever is causing the blockage, the signs are often the similar. You should look out for water taking longer to drain than usual, as well as unpleasant odours coming from the drain.

If you’re hearing a gurgling sound when water is draining or notice water backing up into other drains on your property, contact us on 0417 640 758. We’ll complete a thorough pipe inspection to uncover the source of the blockage before it causes serious damage and becomes expensive to fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I prevent clogged drains?

Preventing clogged drains is all about being mindful of what goes down the drain. Avoid pouring grease, oil, coffee grounds, and food scraps down the kitchen sink, and use a drain strainer to catch any solids, or a waste disposal unit. We fit and service them.

In the bathroom, avoid flushing anything other than toilet paper down the toilet, and use the full-flush when it’s needed!! This is the minimum amount of water to flush the heavy stuff down and out into the Authorities’ main sewer pipe. Definitely not flushable wipes, cat litter, and use hair catchers in the shower to prevent hair buildup.

  • Is it okay to use chemical drain cleaners?

Chemical drain cleaners can be effective, but they’re not recommended for regular use. They can damage your pipes over time, especially in older homes with PVC, Galvanised, or the sealant rings on Earthenware  pipes. Additionally, these chemicals can be harmful to the environment. Instead, consider using natural alternatives like baking soda and vinegar or a plumbing snake for a safer and more effective solution. If blockages persist, it’s best to call a licensed plumber.
